By taking everyday moments as a chance to spread happiness to others, we can uplift ourselves and start a ripple effect that can touch so many.

Have you ever been having the worst day and then a stranger unexpectedly compliments your outfit? Or you get the perfect, goofy video shared to your Facebook page by a friend?

We can all make a difference.

And doesn’t it feel so good to make someone else feel good too?

20+ Uplifting Ways to Spread Happiness

  1. Smile at strangers while running errands. (via Michelle Tripple at Confessions of Parenting)
  2. Pick up someone’s tab at the coffee shop or restaurant.
  3. Put up holiday decorations, inside and out.
  4. Giggle with your kids.
  5. Leave goofy notes in your spouse’s lunch bag.
  6. Comment on posts and follow your favorite bloggers on social media. **wink wink**
  7. Return someone else’s cart at the grocery store.
  8. Compliment a stranger.
  9. Send cards to the troops.
  10. Donate blood.
  11. Become an organ donor.
  12. Cheer on runners at a local 5k, 10k, half marathon or full marathon.
  13. Invite an old friend out for coffee or a walk.
  14. Encourage other runners/walkers/bikers you pass during your workout.
  15. Let a car in your lane.
  16. Put fresh flowers in your house.
  17. Keep small gift cards ($5 or $10) in your purse to give to a stranger that’s having a bad day. (Check out this Facebook post that inspired this idea.)
  18. Decorate sidewalks in your neighborhood with uplifting pictures and sayings with sidewalk chalk.
  19. Leave a great (and honest!) review on a local business’s Facebook page. They will love it!
  20. Surprise a reader by leaving a positive note, or even a dollar bill, in a library book.
  21. Volunteer! Ring bells at Christmas, help out at your local animal shelter, stock shelves at a food pantry.
  22. Bring in an unexpected treat for your coworkers.

  3. Great list, so true that small acts can make a big difference! with school holidays coming up soon, I think decorating the footpath outside our house will be a fun little activity!

  4. I love these ideas! I can’t help but smile just by reading “giggle with your kids.” 🙂 It really does help lighten the mood by making a joke or acting silly with your kids. As my son gets older we are even starting to have inside jokes which are hilarious. Great list!

    • Yes! I love inside jokes with older kids. My oldest is 10 and she’s really becoming quite hilarious. She’s also been goofy to get a laugh but now she’s starting to use smart humor and it’s even better!
